The village Kipi which is located at an altitude of 800 m has been the capital of Zagori until recently. Between the mountains of Mitsikeli and Gamila, Kipi is situated at the centre of an impressive landscape which forms a draining ‘basin’ of lots of streams.

These streams which meet the river Voidomatis form a maze of small and big gorges which are all of incredible and wild beauty. Kipi is a municipal district of the municipality of Tymfis of the prefecture of Ioannina. It is 38 kilometers from Ioannina and it is built on a rocky mountain. It is the largest village in the area and the capital village of Central Zagori.

It has been a settlement since the 15th century and because of the fact that it was the capital of Zagori, a lot of administration services such as the court, the police and the county court were gathered there. Kipi is situated at the most central spot of Zagori and the distance from the other villages is relatively small which gives the possibility to the visitor to admire the surrounding villages easily.

In the area there are lots of places to visit. The walks over the stone bridges, the strolls in the forests and to natural springs, the visit to the Folklore Museum of Agapios Tolis which includes an extremely rich collection of 40.000 folklore items of everyday life are some of the interesting things you can do.
